I was enjoying my own company in the warmth of the sun, reading Mary Magdalene Bride in Exile, and enjoying cold food; the usual...

I had said no to a boat ride, preferring to stay here "alone".

A man with several children walk by (looks Englishey, I note) followed by "mother" and several next generation relatives. An elderly gentleman in a wheelchair is pushed across opposite me in order to access the restaurant terrace. I pause my reading and observe...

...and smile at the gentleman as he and his family negotiate their way onto the terrace.

It is good to see multi-generational caring families. :-)

Someone moves a chair opposite me at my table and the the gentleman in the wheelchair is through.

...

After that, an elderly lady came up to me: she had vibrant blue eyes and explained her husband was the one in the wheelchair. Previously, she told me, they had done everything together, travelled, cycled... the list went on. She explained how life had changed for them.

She thanked me for smiling at her husband.

"You have a beautiful smile," she said, "It helped..."

Really - honestly... she added.

Our eyes met, the lady's and mine, as we affirmed positively soul to soul.

She thanked me from her heart and I thanked her;

she for my SMILE
me for her WORDS
